Cyber Security - Speaker Mark Adams

Mark is a veteran information assurance and security executive with more than 20 years of experience with two large progressive health care organizations. As executive director, CISO services in the office of the CISO at Optiv, Adams is recognized for contributing strategic leadership in constructing and implementing vibrant, comprehensive security governance, risk management and compliance (GRC) / Information Assurance programs that align effectively with operational and strategic business objectives.

During his tenure, Adams has consulted with peers across the country to refine and expand the use of risk-based reporting metrics in executive and board level presentations based on industry-accepted controls models that reflect maturity, effectiveness and effciency of the organizations’ security practice areas.

Prior to his tenure at Optiv, Adams established the role of chief security offcer (CSO) for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska where he served as the executive responsible for security, business continuity and information assurance. As CSO, he effectively leveraged the extensive resources of national security intelligence organizations to construct an adaptable security framework that responds to emerging threats and that meets or exceeds all industry norms in a cost-effective manner. His vision and leadership drove the design, development and execution of the enterprise security program that fully integrated and unified the components of information security, physical security and personnel security.

Adams previously led information security and business continuity governance programs for Lab One, Inc. (now a division of Quest Diagnostics). While there, he assumed multiple roles within the information services, compliance and legal departments to ensure compliance with all applicable national and international information security regulations including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Gramm-Leach-Bliley, Sarbanes-Oxley and EU Directive.

Adams has served on multiple professional advisory boards with physical security, information security and business continuity peers from across the country. He has also published numerous articles and papers on information security and business continuity program development and integration, and he regularly presents on topics ranging from “Converging Physical and Information Security” to “Developing a Security Metrics Program” and “Information Ethics.”
